holiday / birthday / strep

There are two types of people in the world.

Those who enjoy newborns and those who do not.

It seems like dads are allowed to say newborns aren't fun.

And then when moms say it they suddenly seem insensitive, cold and mean.

I don't enjoy newborns.  I don't get baby hungry.  I get through the baby phase the best I can so I can enjoy the rest.  Babies are small, fragile, unpredictable, and a little scary.

Maybe five people read this blog so hopefully news doesn't travel too fast.

I prefer sleeping all night, kids who can eat food in the car while I'm driving, conversations, reading books together, playing at the park, swimming at the pool.

People say they love snuggling babies all day and to that I say: WHEN?  HOW?  AND DON'T YOU NEED TO LEAVE THE HOUSE?

No offense to Thomas or any of my other kids.  I love you all...I just don't prefer you as babies.

XOXO

July so far:

4th of July breakfast with cousin Evan and Tod in his sweet garment top.  He hates when I post pictures of him in his garments and to that I say: Put on a shirt.

Cousin Evan came to visit and spent a week at scout camp.  He was a good sport -- our house isn't super peaceful right now.

Larry on my favorite holiday

Ruby -- scared out of her mind -- on my favorite holiday.

Thomas and me (snuggling!) on my favorite holiday.  See, I'm not that bad.

Lennon's seventh birthday party the next day.  After a weekend of the 4th of July and a birthday party at the pool Tod and I needed a vacation.  Or even a power nap.

He was so happy and look how handsome.  Seven years have flown.

Back at the house...once in awhile things get quiet so I investigate.  I found her like this in her room today and had a good laugh.

Then looked out my bedroom window to see these guys setting up a superhero store.

Some of the options:

Mermaids like grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner.

My sweet, sweet Ruby.

My sassy Ruby who may break her dad's heart someday.

And then Baby Thomas Q...six weeks old now.  And look -- snuggling with his super loving mom.

And then there was last weekend.  Poor Larry had a fever all day so I told Tod I'd take him to the doctor.  Instead he talked me into taking him to Outback for dinner with everyone first.  Picture above is Larry with a fever of 102 and his crappy mom enjoying her meat.

I took him in the next morning and he had strep.  It's the worst when Larry is sick because he doesn't complain...he just looks miserable.

Strep has cleared...so far no one else has it...fingers are crossed.

4th

I love the 4th of July.
July 4, 2012
Remember last year when we put little Ruby in a festive bikini?
July 4, 2013
Well she wore it again this year.  That swimsuit hugged every curve and she really made an impression.  Trying this again next year may be a stretch.
The rest of these were taken at the fireworks.  I'm the only who doesn't look drunk or high.  Just look at these boys above...wasted.
 Ruby's almost passed out.
 Larry...
 Tod?
 Ruby again...trying to act normal.

And finally sweet Lennon who came with a backpack full of useful items: longsleeve shirt and sweats (it was only 105), flashlight in case he got lost, and goggles in case the fireworks were too bright.

Highest of all.

Happy 4th.

4th of July

A couple weeks ago Tod and I were shopping around.  When we saw these shorts, we purchased them immediately.  Because it's H-O-T here and because who didn't wear the same thing growing up?

They were perfect for the 4th of July parade.

Unfortunately Larry spilled chocolate milk all over his tank top during breakfast and Lennon's decorations sort of came apart in the car...

See above.

This little gem didn't mind being woken up with the sun to start the party.  Those lips, that hair, those eyes!
Larry...about 20 seconds post-chocolate milk spill
Lennon and one of his best buddies Tony.  These two are semi-obsessed with each other.
Kid parade...I'm glad no one was seriously injured.  Larry liked weaving in and out of traffic and traffic was going pretty fast.
Lux a Roo and me at the pool.  This bikini was impossible to resist.  She is so comfortable with her curves already.
She loved the water and especially loved her dad holding her all day.  I think she has a crush.

After the pool, these two shot guns.  I don't know much about firearms but nothing about these pictures screams SAFE to me.

And finally:
Tod always teases me because I hate, HATE turning on the BBQ.  I always feel like it's going to explode in my face.  Well, that nearly happened just before dinner but luckily Tod's arm hairs took the brunt of the sudden flames.

But dinner was great.

I love the 4th of July.  More 4ths here and here and if you're still reading...here.

First off, I think it's important to look at this picture (above). I love the patriotism mixed with a little construction.  Also, maybe the worst picture ever taken of both of us in one shot. At first I was sure I looked worse but if you look real hard at Tod...it becomes a toss-up.  This picture was taken right before Tod didn't pay for a race but ran it anyway in the shirt they gave me.

It's also important to note that this week my first born turned four.  Aunt Amy gave him this Ironman suit which he's worn since Monday.  He also only hugs me once per day now because, "I'm four now, Mom...I only hug you once a day."  Now everything he says ends with, "Because I'm four now, Mom."
I ate this at midnight last night.  My head said no but my heart said yes.
Then today I worked in Tod's office.  Once a week I get a babysitter and file for his staff.  Maybe you think I dread this but you're wrong.  It's the highlight of my week.  I get to wear adult clothing and makeup, sit for hours and mindlessly (or silently!) file.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  I also get to walk into Tod's office and see him sitting in this chair which is just slightly off the ground.  He likes it low...reeeeeaaaaal low. He says he doesn't want to intimidate potential clients.  Or scruff up his arm padding.
He also treats me to lunch at places with the most unappealing names and appearances.  He loves finding restaurants that look or sound disgusting. Today he gave me two choices: "Okay, we can either head to Ichabod's or The Blue Ox."

When I even picture the grime under our server's nails today my lunch starts to resurface...
