Karen's 50?

Yes, she is. 50 and fabulous. The older she gets, the better she gets. Who can say that about themselves? Lennon and I made a surprise trip to Grandma's house for her big day. I set Lennon on her doorstep at 10 pm and rang the doorbell. Her screams frightened him a little but it was worth his tears. She was so happy. We threw her a surprise birthday dinner at one of her favorite restaurants, La Dolce Vida. Invited her family and closest friends...

and some of my closest friends...who are friends with her, too...see, my mom is still 25 in many ways.

My beautiful sisters. Want to go out with them?

That week, Lennon went to BYU to see where his grandma works. He was impressed although he commented that kids on campus were a little "too happy" and wore a lot of "leather belts." Observant.
I really love this picture, which leads me to my theory. I think (now this is just me) that I might be a REALLY good photographer...secretly. Of course I need formal instruction, but I may have a natural edge. I will look further into this.
Lennon at a water park -- he went from family to family, checking out what food they had and if any was available for him. Like we don't feed him.

And tried to swim with the ducks. Literally. I won't go into details, but we left five minutes after arriving with a screaming, kicking, 13 month old under my arm. The families present seemed a little alarmed.
And finally, he hung out a lot in Grandma's backyard. I came home one day and found him with Kari and my mom, thoroughly enjoying himself.

How many of us are THIS comfortable in our skin? He shamelessly marched around that yard naked and proud. Ahh to be a kid again.

Mom, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Thanks Holly! You managed to make a "crappy" birthday (I mean 50???) into a "happy" birthday. I loved my party, I loved my present, I loved your visit, but most of all I loved my time with Lennon.

What great family... =))

I love Lennon's self assurance. He is an example to me. In fact today when I was working in my back yard, I decided try out just being...

Well anyway, thanks again for letting me join in the party. I had a good time. I'm glad my parents are already 50+ or else I'd maybe feel pressure to do something sweet and thoughtful for them.

That's so fun that you got to surprise your mom. My mom just turned 50 this summer, too. She handled it okay. It SOUNDS so old, but it's really not. Lennon looks like he's having a great time.

What a doll that Lennon kid! The second to last picture of him holding the hose, soaking wet, looking straight at the camera made me laugh out loud. So cute!
